Minister Derrick Smith has a heart for people, and loves to see people succeed. After spending nearly two decades working in management and government contracting, and more recently in the ministry, Derrick knows what truly impacts people, and it is not mastering the art of the deal or what you can provide for them. It is how well you can connect with the heart of the ones you are trying to help and communicate your understanding back to them.
A proud Husband, father, minister, and soldier; Derrick is the author of three books: The Job Mindset, Perfectly Flawed: The Super-Glued Marriage, and Through The Father's Eyes: God's Design for Your Marriage (Forthcoming). Derrick is the President, Founder, and CEO of the Battle Buddies Outreach Center, a nonprofit organization that provides transitional housing, counseling, and financial literacy skills to homeless veterans
Known for his no nonsense approach to the gospel, life, and matters of the heart; Derrick has been endowed by God with many gifts, but counts the gift of teaching as his most coveted gift, and it is this gift that has allowed him to impact everyone he connects with. Affectionately known as the cake man, it is his heart for people and humble spirit, not the pursuit of fame that keeps him going.
Derrick holds a Bachelor’s degree in Theological Studies from the Rawlings School of Divinity at Liberty University and is currently pursuing his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and board certification as a Chaplain. Derrick is a proud member of the Ministerial Staff at Saint Matthew Baptist Church in Alachua, Fl. He, his wife Albany, and their son Taylor currently reside in Jacksonville, AR
